Farragut Winter Duathlon with the Trail Maniacs

January 12, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Farragut State Park

Hi folks, I know winters can be long and snowy here in the Inland Northwest and not everyone can make it up to the ski slopes. For the past few years Kelly and I have traveled to Winthrop, WA for their annual fat bike festival and I can’t describe what a blast this has been! Imagine being able to ride, Nordic ski, and snowshoe all winter long on groomed trails! Grooming trails is very difficult to do by hand though and I know that if we had a groomer available to us we could create more outdoor winter activities closer to home. With this in mind, I set about finding a way to pay for an expensive groomer. Thanks to Mike Gaertner of Vertical Earth I was able to take over a 501(c)7 and we have created Trail Maniac Foundation. Trail Maniac Foundation is a nonprofit corporation and our goal is to create more outdoor opportunities for winter groomed trails close to town. These trails will be open for fat biking, Nordic skiing, and snowshoeing. We have a Best Track sled single track groomer and will be grooming local trails when the snow is deep enough. Your participation in the TMF’s Winter Duathlon is a fundraiser to help pay for expenses associated with grooming and save $$ for more grooming equipment laughing.

Are you ready for a challenge! Don’t worry this duathlon does not include swimming in the lake! The race details are as follows:

DATE: 1/12/19 at 9:00 am

LOCATION: Farragut State Park

Individuals and 2-person teams are welcome to participate in this event. The disciplines will consist of a 5k snowshoe/16k Fat bike ride/5k snowshoe.

We also offer individual events: 16K Fat bike race and a 5K Snowshoe race

SCHEDULE:

8:00 am to 8:55 am bib pickup and late registration

8:55 am pre-race briefing

9:00 am duathlon start (individuals and teams) start

+-9:10 am 16K Fat bike race start

9:20 am 5K snowshoe run start

Please note that we will only have one aid station located near the transition.

** If we do not have enough snow for the event it will be a run/MTB/run event

*** State park pass is required
